Case study - Cumbrian green slate memorial

The images below show the various stages of creating a Cumbrian green slate monolith-style memorial. The whole process is illustrated from initial sketches, through drawing and carving. The lettering and some carving is painted and the birds are part finished with palladium leaf. This, along with some other design elements, are a reference to the wonderful illustrations of the Scottish artist Jessie M. King (Some examples are included). All images are reproduced with the kind permission of my client.
