Case study: wedding arch commission
The arch below was created for a beautiful wedding in the stunning grounds of Glen Tanar, Aberdeenshire. The arch was designed with location in mind, half ivory and half wood to match the surroundings, and the wedding ceremony took place beneath it. Three iroko wood plaques were carved, painted or finished with 23.5c gold leaf. The decorative carving included a thistle and rose to symbolise the Scottish/English union (as well as bees for Manchester and wee midges for Scotland!) The lines along the vertical plaques are lyrics from the song that accompanied the first dance. The plaques were designed to be removable so that after the ceremony they could be removed and hung anywhere, or simply left as they are and allowed to weather naturally as a garden arch. The florists did a fantastic job on the day of weaving the flowers around the arch as though they are part of it.
